Education in any society and nation is a basic need of all human races regardless of their social mental or physical status. Education is no doubt a dynamic instrument of change if efficient and committed teachers and facilities are used. This is the reason why so much attention in terms of human and material resources, have been devoted to the educational sector for its development and growth in the countries of the world, most especially in the developing countries.
Education is not only a key to success in the labour market but also a key to continued growth of freedom, peace and unity throughout the world. Ayeni (2001) considered education as the corner stone of economic and social development. According to him, education improves the productive capacity of societies and their political economic and scientific institutions. Apart from this, education helps to reduce poverty by mitigating its effects on population health, and nutrition. Therefore as economic worldwide are being transformed by technological advancement and new methods of population that depends on a well-trained intellectual flexible labour force, education becomes more significant.
Therefore to improve the quality of education for its effectiveness and efficiency, it is important that schools should have conducive learning environment with adequate classrooms, libraries, furniture, equipment, staff and funds for them to improve the quality of education in the local government area.
From the forgoing two variables can be perceived as constituting an important factor in the improvement of the quality of education to achieve the objectives. The variables are human and materials resources. Human and material resources are needed in a given quality and quantity, it enhance the performance of schools and invariable the academic performance of individual students.
The human factor cannot be performed effectively without the availability of material resources. Material resources are school facilities and can also be referred to as school plants. Adeboyeje (2004) described school plants as the school site, building, classroom, corridors, playground sanitary facilities and other equipment minus the consumable materials.
Educational facilities aid teaching and learning process that is; education, facilities play an important role in the determination of the academic performance of students.
A well designed functional school building with a wide array of teaching aids therefore provides effective delivery of schools curriculum and is positively related to academic achievements in line with the above.
